So, you found that perfect wedding location, the perfect dress, your brilliant wedding planner has worked with you to create a gorgeous bespoke destination wedding. You’ve book all of tickets and accommodation and sorted out all of the boring legalities. In one week, you will be married. There’s nothing left to do. Except – there is!
The final week before your destination wedding abroad there a still a few little last-minute things you can do to ensure that you get hitched without a hitch!
Here are five things you can do in the week before your destination wedding.
If you don’t have the time or money or can’t get an appointment do a few treatments at home, and get some early nights in too. Whatever it takes to look and feel your best before you leave.
A good wedding planner will have helped you choose a hairdresser and makeup artist for your wedding day. But arriving with perfect nails, silky hair and glowing skin is only going to make their job easier as well as making you look fabulous in your wedding photographs.
2. Double and triple check your tickets and timings for your journey. Get your tickets out and double check your timings, work your way backwards to work out what time you need to leave for the airport, what time you will need to wake up, how long you’ll need to get ready. You want to start your wedding adventure relaxed yet excited not late, disorganised and stressed.
3. Pack! This one is obvious but make a detailed list and pack early. Leave it too late and you might realise you don’t have the right size suitcase, or you’ve gone over the weight allowance on the plane. Pack everything you need, plus pack an emergency wedding kit that contains plasters, headache tablets, a needle and thread, mints, gum and dental floss.
Also, give some thought to how your wedding dress will travel and whether you’ll need it steamed when you get there.
4. Write your vows. Don’t leave it until the last minute. Write them down, type them up, take a photocopy, laminate them if you have to. Though we always think handwritten vows are the sweetest. Then practice alone reading them out loud. In a clear confident voice without rushing. You can’t afford to mess this one up so preparation is everything here.
It’s a good idea to get a trusted mutual friend or family member to listen to your and your partners vows separately and in confidence to check that they work together. It’s going to look a bit odd if one of you is pouring your heart out whilst the other is cracking jokes. Or one of you has 10 vows whilst the other has 3. So run them past a trusted friend or family member first to make sure the vows are balanced evenly between the two of you.
5. Double check your legal paperwork is all in order. This is especially important if you’ve managed to organise your destination wedding abroad without a wedding planner. Hats off to you if you have as it must have been a full-time job and we’re guessing you must already have one of those!
The last thing you want is to arrive at your destination to learn that you can’t be married because there’s a form you haven’t filled out.
At Scandinavian Saga, we take care of all of the legal paperwork for our couples. Getting you to complete and return all required documents well in advance of your wedding date. This frees you up to enjoy planning the fun part of your wedding adventure whilst we take care of the boring admin.
